Is it possible to lose bowel control during a panic attack?

I have agoraphobia and panic disorder. I’m going to be in a situation where a restroom won’t be available for an hour or so, so there’s no way I can get to a restroom if I need to.

I was wondering if it is actually possible to lose control during a panic attack. Can you lose control? If you feel the need to go to the toilet, can your panic attack make you lose control of your bowels?

Social Anxiety : My Story Pt. 1

When did I first find out I had social anxiety disorder? What were some personal experiences? It might be confusing that I found out when I was a junior in high school, yet I had it for more than eight years. The thing is, for the longest time I just flooded myself and faced my fears – socializing with immense anxiety – and then it came to the point where I couldn’t fake it anymore. How to Get Rid of Acne Scars

Scars left by acne on skin appear ugly. This leaves a painful impressions on the patient, people genuinely try to get rid of these scars. They try everything from topical creams, to gels, pills and lotions to remove these scars. Everyone wants flawless skin. However, acne marks may make you feel like hiding your face inside a pillow.

Acne scars develop as soon as you pop pimple or squeeze it out. Popping or squeezing results in a permanent mark at the affected area. The deeper you have peeled the skin, the darker is the mark. Most of the times this action leaves a scar and it gets very difficult to get rid off this scar.

Don’t panic if you have already developed an acne scar. There are some home remedies that will help you eliminate these scars on your face.

Here are some tricks to solve your problem:

a) Take fresh juice of lemon. Now dip a cotton ball in it. Pat your face with the cotton ball and let it dry naturally. Some people may find this a little irritating. You may dilute the lemon juice with some rose water or plain water. Let the surface dry naturally for 15-20 minutes and wash your face with water after a while. Repeat this process at least four times a week and you will see a remarkable change in your skin structure.

b) Prepare a paste with some sandalwood powder and rose-water. Now add 2-4 drops of lime juice to it. Apply this paste on your face and neck. Now, let the solution dry naturally. After that, you need to rinse your face and neck thoroughly. Do this on a regular basis to get best results.

c) Applying cucumber juice on your face with cotton wool. This should be your daily regime during summers. This will help cooling off the skin and tighten the pores. Cucumber juice is extremely helpful in making your skin glow and makes it feel fresh.

d) Another popular homemade remedy for removing acne marks into make a paste of apple and honey. First, make apple paste and then add about 4-6 drops of honey. Apply this mask on your face.

e) Wash off after 15 minutes. This paste helps tightening pores and also makes complexion lighter.

There are some technical procedures that will help you get rid of acne scars:

a) Dermabrasion

This is different from micro-dermabrasion that removes top layer of dead surface skin cells from the face. Dermabrasion is actually a coarser method that removes further layers. The dermatologist will numb your face and then remove layers. The recovery time takes about a couple of weeks. Your skin will scab. Once the scab falls, you will get fresh and glowing skin.

b) Laser resurfacing

This is a method that cleans away pimples and get rid of acne scars. The use of laser is prominent in this method. CO2 laser and YAG laser are the two lasers used commonly in this procedure. This procedure removes the top layers of the skin that has been damaged. The recovery time is a couple of weeks. Your doctor may also apply a topical ointment for speeding up the recovery process.

c) Augmentation

Here, the dermatologist injects fillers usually collagen under the skin. This smoothens acne scarred area. The doctor may take fat from other places in your body and inject instead of collagen. The recovery period is fast.

The Main Characteristics of Xanax (alprazolam)

Xanax is a medication which belongs to the group of benzodiazepines used to treat depression and anxiety. Xanax has also other brand names such as: Xanor, Tafil, Niravam. Its generic name is Alprazolam.

In 1982 FDA approved it as a good preparation to treat GAD – Generalized Anxiety Disorder, panic disorder with or without agoraphobia, and anxiety that is associated with state of depression. (It should not be confused with treatment of depression alone).

Lately, FDA approved a new formulation of Xanax and it is now also available and well-known. Now Panic Disorder may be treated by Xanax XR.

Classification:

Schedule IV controlled psychotropic

Clinical Pharmacology:

Alprazolam is a triazolobenzodiazepine – a benzodiazepine with a triazolo-ring attached to its structure. It belongs to the GABA subrange type of the GABA receptor (Gamma-amino-butyric acid, a neurotransmitter found in the nervous system), raising the prohibitive effects of GABA in the central nervous system (CNS).

In contrast to other benzodiazepine, Alprazolam has a certain function of antidepressants as well, despite of the fact that there is no clinical evidence of the present statement.

The mechanism of Xanax’s action is not understood in full measure; however the medicine is absorbed form the gastrointestinal tract.

Indications and Dosage:

Usually Xanax is used to manage anxiety disorder or relief of symptoms of anxiety of short duration. If anxiety lasts for a long period of time from day to day Alprazolam is not prescribed as a rule.

Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is described as serious or pronounced anxiety and worry as for some facts that took place in a patient’s life, during six months or more, when a person is very troubled as for this. Approximately six of these symptoms are available in such patients, they are: trembling, twitching, shakiness, muscle tension, soreness, restlessness, aches and pains, fatigue, shortness of breath, palpitations or accelerated heart rate, sweating, nausea, diarrhea, cold clammy skin, dry mouth, dizziness or lightheadedness, abdominal distress, flushes or chills, frequent urination, difficulty swallowing, feeling on edge, exaggerated startle response, difficulty concentrating, sleep disturbances, irritability.

To get an effective results from Xanax, a patient needs usually 4 months to be treated when it is anxiety disorder and 4 to 10 week dealing with panic disorder; though patients with panic disorder have been treated for up to 8 months without any diminishment in benefit. A doctor must reconsider the effectiveness of the medicine for a certain individual from time to time.

Xanax Side Effects and Interactions:

Usually such side effects as somnolence (drowsiness), impaired motor functions such as clumsiness and dizziness, fatigue and headaches may be noticed.

There are also side effects which occur rarer, they are: blurred vision, sleep apnea, hypoventilation, disturbance in depth perception, slurred speech, confusion, disorientation, changes in personality, vivid dreams and/or nightmares, amnesia, bradycardia, tachycardia, jaundice, changes in plasma cortisol and ACTH levels, decreased or increased salivation, blood dyscrasias, incontinence, elevated liver enzymes, constipation, nausea.

In case of overdose – anxiety, nervousness, agitation, rage, insomnia and muscle spasms and rigidity are met. These consequences may also happen when Xanax is used in combination with alcohol. However they should disappear with proper dosage adjustment.

A long-period use of Alprazolam may result in physical as well as psychological dependence. People usually develop a tolerance to the drug’s sedative effects, but tolerance to the anxiolytic effects is infrequent when used at correct dosage levels.

Information for Parents and Kids:

It is necessary to consult your doctor before starting to treat a child by Xanax. As safety and effectiveness have not been stated and established in patients who are under 18 years old.

Alprazolam may be quite dangerous for unborn baby. That is why be very careful deciding to use it when you are pregnant and it is highly recommended to get an advice from your doctor as for taking Alprazolam during your pregnancy.

There is no information as for Xanax getting into ****** milk. Visit your doctor if you are ****** feeding a baby as it may be not safely.

How to Overcome Anxiety While Driving

If you’re feeling anxious at just the thought of driving, chances are getting on the freeway is enough to tip you into a full blown panic attack.  You’re not alone and there IS help, so listen up.  Anxiety while driving is way more common than you might realize.  If you’re suffering with this debilitating condition, this article will give you strategies you can start implementing immediately to overcome your problem once and for all.

 

So, let’s get started with some tips that will alleviate the anxiety while driving one step at time.

 

Rationalize your Behavior and Set a Goal

Recognizing the root cause of your fear is really the first step to overcoming your problem.  Driving anxiety can originate from a multitude of places.

 

Have you ever been in a bad car accident or experienced a traumatic experience in the car?  Is your generalized anxiety giving you an overwhelming fear of death?  Do you have claustrophobic tendencies and feel trapped in the confined space of a car?  Have you ever known someone close to you who also suffered from this debilitating condition?  Were you deeply affected by someone who died in a car accident?

 

These are just some of the questions you should be asking yourself when you get into the car and that terrible fear takes hold.  Rationalize your feelings by recognizing their origin.  Although this tactic won’t stop your driving anxiety, it will poise you to start treating it.  That’s because understanding the root cause of your fear puts the problem in perspective.  You recognize that it’s an irrational anxiety that can be stopped with treatment.  The anxiety while driving is just an illusion that you’ve created for yourself with preconceived notions based on superstition and habitual behavior.

 

That’s the theory, anyway.  The fear as you know is much more tangible.

 

After taking note of your fear and the feelings that overwhelm you, make a pact with yourself that you won’t let fear steer the direction of your behavior. 

 

Choose to run TOWARDS what you want in life.  Don’t run AWAY from what scares you.

 

Do you recognize the primary difference between those two scenarios?  When you move TOWARDS your desires, you’re taking action.  When you run AWAY from what scares you, you’re reacting (and irrationally as well).  Take control and make the decision to overcome your driving anxiety.  Making this commitment is the first step towards realistically attaining this goal. 

 

Overcome the Panic

When you get in that car and the panic hits, it’s going to strike fast and furious.  Have a plan and learn anxiety tactics that work.  The very first sensation that will hit you is a feeling of not being able to breathe comfortably.

 

You’ll probably have trouble swallowing normally and taking natural breaths. You’ll feel claustrophobic. You’ll feel like you’re dying and trapped in your car.  The list of symptoms goes on and on.

 

Learning to breathe the RIGHT way will be your best ally at plowing through the panic and building up a tolerance to the driving anxiety.

 

Start by inhaling deeply through your nose for 4 seconds and exhaling out your mouth for the next 4 seconds.  Feel your diaphragm pushing your stomach outward as you breathe in and pushing inward as you exhale through your mouth.

 

Be methodical with your breaths.  Don’t rush them.  Hyperventilation is a common symptom when driving anxiety hits, so this exercise will take control of your physical symptoms and allow you to calm your panic away.

 

The other idea of breathing is to change your focus.  If you feel like you can’t swallow, it’ll only feel more uncomfortable by thinking about it.  Swallowing is an involuntary muscle reflex.  Of course it’ll be harder to do if you’re actually concentrating on the muscles in your throat.  Focus on what you can control, your breath.  Let this exercise calm you and give you the satisfaction of knowing you’re doing something to actively stop your panic.

 

Getting Out of your Comfort Zone

When it comes to overcoming your anxiety while driving, don’t think of it as turning off a light switch to make the anxiety effectively disappear.  Instead, think of the process as wearing down your sensitivity to the fear until you are numb to the experience altogether and driving becomes a mundane activity.

 

There are a couple of factors that come into play here.  Firstly, when you’re driving, you’re usually moving away from you home – a place of comfort.  This activity alone is something that may give you anxiety. 

 

Try to make your car as comfortable as possible. 

 

Make the temperature perfect with climate control.  Have relaxing fragrances in the car if that makes the experience more enjoyable for you.  Car fragrances help you take advantage of another anxiety fighting tactic – Aromatherapy. 

 

Also, music is a great way to take attention off your fear.  Play your favorite CD or ipod playlist.  Enjoy yourself.  Who knows – if you pamper yourself enough in your car, you may start looking forward to the longer trips.

 

The most common complaint about anxiety while driving is driving on the freeway.  The higher speeds and increased traffic can be a huge hurdle for panic sufferers.
